Indians, Wolves Cap Conference Schedule With Wins, Pioneers Fall in Home Finale (Volleyball RoundUp)

Spirit Lake closed out the Lakes Conference portion of their volleyball season with a third-straight win in three-sets, defeating rival Spencer, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-17. The Indians were paced by Kendra Stokke’s double-double with a dozen kills and a dozen more digs. Bailey Loveall finished with eight kills and three blocks. Whitney Berkland set the attack with 24 assists. Spencer’s Taylor Anderson reached double-digits as well, with ten kills and two blocks. Kirstin Martindale tallied seven kills. The Tigers sit at 3-3 in league play with one match against Storm Lake remaining. They are 13-16 overall with the loss. Spirit Lake ends with a 5-2 Lakes Conference mark and boasts a 16-6 record overall. They play in the Storm Lake Tournament this Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, Estherville Lincoln Central used four sets to cap their regular conference schedule with a win over Cherokee, 25-20, 11-25, 25-19, and 27-25. The Midgets went 4-3 in league matches. LeMars upended Storm Lake in a sweep, 25-14, 25-21, and 25-17. And Western Christian closed out another undefeated championship conference season with an impressive sweep of Emmetsburg, 25-4, 25-9, and 25-8.

Okoboji’s final home game ended with a four-set loss in Siouxland Conference play, as the Pioneers fell to Sioux Center, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-15. Mikkinzie Peschong tallied 14 kills, Kiley Wermersen was tops with 17 assists, and Abby Taylor collected 15 digs. Okoboji will take a 1-7 league record to George-Little Rock on Thursday.

The rest of the Siouxland saw Sheldon and Boyden-Hull enter Tuesday’s match tied for first with just one loss in conference, and the Orabs claimed the outright championship with a three-set sweep on their home floor, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-15. The Comets fall into a tie for second with MOC-Floyd Valley, who defeated West Lyon in a sweep, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-20. George-Little Rock kept Sibley-Ocheyedan from their first league win, sweeping the Generals, 28-26, 25-16, and 25-15.

Harris-Lake Park finished the regular season with a road win in the Cornbelt Conference, taking down Ruthven-Ayrshire in four sets, 25-13, 25-20, 18-25, and 25-13. As a team, the Wolves served up ten aces with an overall serve efficiency of 93%. Noreen Morrow went off for 20 kills in the match. Leah Duitsman had ten kills, four blocks and three aces. And Macy Gunderson tallied 37 set assists and three aces. HLP ends the regular season with an 18-15 record on the year and 5-2 in league play. They host Central Lyon in the regionals on October 19.

Also in the Cornbelt, Graettinger-Terril suffered a three-set sweep at Ventura, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-23. The Knights received eight kills and 16 digs from Nikki Brown. Setter Hailley Nelson had 17 assists. G-T wraps up the regular season 5-21 overall and 1-5 in the conference. They travel to North Iowa to open the regionals on October 19. And Clay Central-Everly handled its business at CWL in three sets, 25-13, 25-12, and 25-12.

North of the border, Jackson County Central registered another victory, defeating Blue Earth in four sets, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, and 28-26. Fairmont fell in three quick sets at Marshall, 25-8, 25-15, and 25-13. Southwest Minnesota Christian made quick work of Round Lake-Brewster, 25-10, 25-11, and 25-12. And Worthington lost a home match to Windom in three sets, 25-13, 25-18, and 25-21.
