Indians Walkoff With District Semifinal Win Over Pioneers, Wolves Lose Lead and Postseason Opener (Baseball)

A dramatic ending to a Class 2A District Semifinal baseball game between Lakes Area rivals Okoboji and Spirit Lake ends with the Indians moving on to the District finals with a 4-3 walk off win. With the game tied at three, Spirit Lake’s Tyler Dean drew a walk and would eventually advance to third on a two base error. Two batters later, Levi Davis sent a 3-1 pitch to right field, plating Dean for the win. Davis, Cody Poock and Paul Brown combined to go 6-for-9 with three RBI and two runs scored in the heart of the Indians’ lineup. Mitch Peschon gets the win after throwing three scoreless innings in relief of starter Paul Brown. Together the duo registered nine strikeouts and allowed four hits. Ray Zalabowski struck out twelve in a losing effort as the senior pitched for the final time in a Pioneers’ uniform. The Pioneers’ season closes with a 10-16 record, while the Indians will play Sheldon on Saturday in Spirit Lake. We will carry that game live on KUOO and at ExploreOkoboji.com. The Orabs made it to the District final by ending Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s season with a 5-2 decision. The Hawks went 10-19 this season.
