Indians Trail Entire Game, Wolves Let Win Slip Away (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

Despite several scoring bursts, the Spirit Lake girls basketball team never found themselves out in front Thursday night, and eventually fell 58-51 at Western Christian in a Lakes Conference showdown of second-place teams. Brooke Wolterstorff owned the paint and the free throw line, scoring 20 points and hitting 8-of-9 at the stripe to lead the Wolfpack. KJ Veldman notched a double-double of 19 points and ten rebounds in the losing effort. She hit three from beyond the arc. Spirit Lake is now in third place at 9-3 and host Estherville-Lincoln Central tonight on KUOO.

Paige Naig’s 17 points sparked Emmetsburg to a fourth Lakes Conference win, as the E-Hawks took down winless Storm Lake 54-41. Two others, Nicole Leuer and Kaity Degen, were also in double-digits. Emmetsburg travels to Hull this evening to battle Western Christian on Y100.

Chances to steal a Cornbelt Conference victory escaped the grasp of the Harris-Lake Park Lady Wolves last night as they surrendered to West Bend-Mallard, 58-50. Anna and Lydia Brandt combined to score 32 of HLP’s points. The Lady Wolves currently sit at 11-6 overall.
