Six area high school volleyball teams found themselves in some intense matches on Saturday at the Spirit Lake Invitational. The tournament featured round-robin play, which saw both the Indians and Estherville-Lincoln Central finish 4-1. The title belonged to Spirit Lake based on their two-game sweep of the Midgets (21-9, 21-19). The Indians were paced by Kendra Stokke’s 34 kills, Whitney Berkland collected 81 set assists, and Amanda Bueltel tallied 56 digs. Okoboji joined Spirit Lake and ELC with the only other winning record, finishing the day at 3-2, including a win over the champs, to take third place. Mikkinzie Peschong hammered home 31 kills, 15 aces, and eleven blocks. Sydney Boeckholt had 49 assists and Faith Bartlett registered 40 digs. Harris-Lake Park went 1-4 through round-robin play. Noreen Morrow was the top attacker at 27 kills. Macy Gunderson racked up 55 set assists. The remaining two schools, Sibley-Ocheyedan and North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted, went 1-4 and 2-3, respectively.

Spencer hosted their own tournament Saturday, with Algona, Carroll, Cherokee, Humboldt, and Maple Valley-Anthon Oto. The Tigers would finish 1-4, with the lone win coming over Cherokee in three games, 23-21, 18-21, 15-12.

At Emmetsburg High School, the E-Hawks entertained Graettinger-Terril, Algona Bishop Garrigan, and Storm Lake. Emmetsburg notched a win over the Knights (18-21, 21-14, 16-14), though G-T would get revenge later (20-22, 21-15, 15-8). Both teams finished 1-3. Nikki Brown led the Knights with 20 kills and 23 digs.
