After a rain and lightning delay, the Spirit Lake
softball team opened Lakes Conference play Friday with a home contest against
Western Christian. Both teams struggled defensively out-of-the-gate allowing a
combined thirteen runs in the first three innings. In the end, the Wolfpack
stole a 10-6 road win. Jasmine VanderZwaag had the night’s biggest performance.
The junior had four hits, scored three runs, drove in three more, and picked up
the win after striking out eight batters. The Indians are 0-1 to start league
play and 2-2 overall, with a trip to Alta/Aurelia set for Tuesday.
The softball matchup between non-conference foes Spencer and
MOC-Floyd Valley was postponed due to weather. No
make up date has been set.
