Indians Sweep E-Hawks, Wolves Fall for 1st Time in Conference, G-T Wins (Volleyball RoundUp)

A highly efficient offensive attack keyed the Spirit Lake volleyball team to its first Lakes Conference victory of the season Tuesday, taking down Emmetsburg in a three-set sweep, 25-11, 25-9, 25-18. The Indians tallied 26 kills in the three-game match, led by Kendra Stokke’s team-high ten and Bailey Loveall’s seven. Loveall also registered five blocks. As a team, the Indians accumulated 14 services aces and Senior Whitney Berkland served up seven of them, including four straight in game number two. Berkland also dished out 21 set assists. The E-Hawks were led by Paige Naig and Miranda Vlasman, both of whom had three kills. Emmetsburg falls to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the conference, and return home Thursday to face LeMars. That match will be broadcast on Y100. Spirit Lake is now 1-1 in league play and 12-4 on the season, with a home date on Thursday against Cherokee.

In other Lakes Conference action, Spencer needed four sets to defeat Estherville-Lincoln Central. The Midgets took game one 27-25, before the Tigers recovered to sweep the next three sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-18. Also Cherokee took down Storm Lake in four sets, 25-8, 25-22, 22-25, 29-27.

Harris-Lake Park had hopes for a perfect run through the Cornbelt Conference, however, that dream was derailed by visiting West Bend-Mallard in three very hard-fought, close sets, 27-25, 26-24, 25-22. Noreen Morrow dropped in eight kills and Macy Gunderson notched 19 assists. The Wolves are now 2-1 in conference play and 8-11 overall. They return to action Thursday at Clay Central-Everly, a match that will air live on Q102.

Graettinger-Terril picked up its first conference win, a three-set victory over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne, 27-25, 25-14, 25-23. Nikki Brown had a team-high twelve kills and eight digs. Hailley Nelson finished with 19 assists and Morgan Mortensen served up seven aces.

Over in the Siouxland Conference, eighth-ranked Sheldon dispensed Sibley-Ocheyedan in three sets, 25-16, 25-6, 25-9. The War Eagle Conference saw South O’Brien garner a four-set win over Remsen-Union, 25-22, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16.

North of the border, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial defeated Martin County West, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 15-8, and Fulda swept Round Lake-Brewster, 25-21, 25-14, 25-5.
