Indians Stay Atop Lakes Standings, Wolves Drop Matchup Atop Cornbelt (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

The Indians of Spirit Lake continue to lead the pack in the Lakes Conference, as they defeated Cherokee Friday night 53-43 to remain unscathed at 4-0 in league play. KJ Veldman hit for 26 points, including a pair of three-pointers and a 6-for-8 effort at the free throw line. Leah Hilpipre registered thirteen points, ten of which came at the charity stripe. For the game, Spirit Lake was 21-of-31 on free throws, while the Braves went just 5-for-8. The Indians will welcome Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn to town on Monday in a non-conference battle, which will be aired live on KUOO Campus Radio.

Spencer returned to .500 in Lakes Conference play with a 45-32 win over rival Emmetsburg. Ashley Williamson led a balanced Tigers attack with eleven points. Paige Naig pitched in 16 for the EHawks, who are 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Spencer is 3-4 this season and 2-2 in the Lakes.

In their last game before the winter break, Okoboji fell 51-33 at Rock Valley in Siouxland Conference game. The Pioneers are 1-5 in the league and 3-5 overall. Their next game is January 4 at home against MOC-Floyd Valley.
