After Day One of the Iowa high school girls state golf championships, the Spirit Lake Indians sit in sixth place as a team, 44 strokes behind the overall leader in Class 3A. Spirit Lake tallied a team score of 394, with Charles City in first at 350 following the first round at River Valley Golf Course in Adel. Senior Maureen Owens is currently tied for thirteenth individually after an opening day 92 and trails the leader by 24 shots. Emily Ayers pitched in with a first round score of 97, Leah Hilpipre carded a 101, and Whitney Berkland rounded out the counted scores with a 104. The meet continues Wednesday with the final round.
The Class 2A championship meet at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny saw Emmetsburg senior Megan Myers finish her first 18 holes with a score of 95, placing her in a tie for 21st individually. The leader is 15 strokes ahead with one day of competition remaining.
