Indians Show Strong Effort at Lakes Conference Indoor Meet

The Lakes Conference hosted its annual indoor track and field meet at Buena Vista University on Tuesday, and the Spirit Lake Park girls and boys teams enjoyed a highly successful evening. On the boys side, SLP dominated the relay competitions, grabbing first place in four events. Kayne Feldick, Keith Byers, Will Norris, and Alec Baldwin teamed up to set a new conference and school record in the 4×800, with a first place time of 8:31.47. The Indians also received gold in the 4×400 (3:36.04), 4×200 (1:36.35), and the shuttle hurdle relay (36.42). Individually, Baldwin (4:50.80), Byers (4:55.36) and Norris (4:55.41) took the top three spots on the medal stand in the 1600m run, Casey Spaeth (18’9″) and DJ Smith (18’1″) finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the long jump, Luke Kabele came in fifth in the 55m run (6.80), and Tanner Kroon was seventh in the shot put (40’6.5″).

For the girls, Spirit Lake Park’s top finishers were Kendra Stokke in the high jump at 4’10” and Brianna Brunsvold in the 1500m run with a time of 5:36.83, both good for second place. Third place honors went to Molly Hutchins in the shot put (33’6.5″), Dondi Schmidt in the 1500m run (5:39.15), as well as the shuttle hurdle team (44.28) and the 4×800 relay team (10:59.78). Miranda Brueggeman placed fourth in the long jump (14’5″), while the 4×200 relay team took fourth (2:00.31). SLP had three runners place in the top six in the 200m dash, Lindsey Arneson (30.63), Kayla Herrig (30.73), and Abbey Horsman (31.52). Finally, Jessie Kabele took sixth in the long jump (14’3″) and also in sixth place was the 4×400 relay team (4:42.83).
