A double-double of 26 points, twelve rebounds by sophomore KJ Veldman helped the Spirit Lake Indians girls basketball team improve to 2-0 in the Lakes Conference Friday night with a 51-38 victory over the LeMars Bulldogs. Veldman connected on two shots from beyond the arc and was 12-of-14 at the free throw line. Spirit Lake actually trailed by eleven in the first quarter, but head coach Rick Reinking says his team’s defense helped turn the tide in the second quarter. Leah Hilpipre finished with eight points for the Indians who are now 2-0 in the league and will travel to Storm Lake on Tuesday.
Okoboji sought another Siouxland Conference win, taking on Sheldon last night, but the Orabs ended up with the W by a 39-32 decision. Paisley Jones reached double-digits with ten points, and Mikkinzie Peschong had eight points, seven rebounds. The Pioneers are 2-4 overall and host Trinity Christian on Monday, which can be heard here on KUOO Campus Radio.
