Indians Roll to 4th W, HMS Grabs Homecoming W, E-Hawks Stay Perfect (Football RoundUp)

Four possessions ending in four touchdowns handed Spirit Lake a fourth straight fast start and victory Friday at Western Christian, as the Indians dominated the Wolfpack to a 42-7 final in the Class 2A district opener. The offense tallied 459 total yards, while the defense shutdown Western Christian to just 60 total yards. The Indians 21-0 lead after the first quarter now means they have outscored their four opponents 111-0 in the opening twelve minutes of action. Aric Waltz found the end zone twice rushing for 74 yards, while Cody Poock amassed 135 total yards of offense, scored a touchdown and also intercepted a pass on defense. Paul Brown completed seven passes for 145 yards and a score. He also ran for another. Spirit Lake returns home next Friday for Homecoming and will host Sheldon. Catch that game live on KUOO.

Elsewhere in Class 2A, Sheldon ran roughshod over Estherville-Lincoln Central in a 44-14 ballgame, and Sioux Center earned a district win, 34-14, over Unity Christian.

It was a successful Homecoming game at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, as the Hawks took advantage to two second half turnovers by Sibley-Ocheyedan to defeat the Generals 28-7. The two miscues led to 15 third quarter points. HMS racked up 395 yards on the ground, led by Logan Rozeboom’s 187 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Clark crossed the goal line twice en route to 131 yards and Troy Simons also found pay dirt in the win. The Generals received 91 yards rushing and their lone touchdown from Ethan Stofferan. Owen Wiese threw for 86 yards on 6-of-21 passing. HMS travels to Alta-Aurelia next week, while Sibley-Ocheyedan plays host to Sioux Central.

The Rebels had their hands full at home Friday taking on Emmetsburg, which remained undefeated with a 35-7 victory. The E-Hawks host Pocahontas in one week on Y100.

In other Class 1A district matchups, South O’Brien barely got by Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer 13-10 and West Lyon handled Alta/Aurelia in a 36-12 victory.

Over in Class 3A, the Spencer Tigers were no match for last year’s runners-up as Bishop Heelan notched a 48-7 win. Storm Lake defeated LeMars 48-27. And a defensive battle between Denison-Schleswig and MOC-Floyd Valley went to the Monarchs 7-6.

Clay Central-Everly needed more than four quarters to determine a winner against Northwood-Kensett, but in the end the Mavericks fell 12-6 in overtime in non-district Class A football.

Undefeated Harris-Lake Park took their first setback of the season in 8-man football on Friday, as the Wolves dropped a 44-14 decision at West Bend-Mallard to open district play. The Knights of Graettinger-Terril found the win column for the first time in 2011, winning a close 41-34 contest with North Sentral Kossuth. G-T hosts rival Ruthven-Ayrshire next week, a game that will be live on Q102. And Armstrong-Ringsted pushed their win streak to 27 straight with another impressive performance, blanking CWL 54-0.

North of the border it was the opening night of the high school football season in Minnesota, and Jackson County Central is off to a fast start with a 31-6 defeat of Worthington. Marshall took care of Fairmont 40-21.
