The size and athleticism of LeMars proved to be too much for the Spirit Lake boys basketball team Friday night, as the Bulldogs defeated the Indians 56-38 in Lakes Conference play. Six-foot-seven senior Paxton Strub finished with 24 points and six blocks, part of a defensive scheme the head coach Nate Loenser says gave his squad fits. Mitch Peschon dropped in thirteen points, with three three-pointers for Spirit Lake. Tayler Acton had eight points and Paul Brown six. The Indians will take a 1-3 record into this evening’s non-conference rivalry game with Harris-Lake Park. You can that game right here on KUOO Campus Radio and online at www.network1sports.com. The expected start time is 7:45pm with the pregame show.
The Okoboji offense came to life in the second half, scoring 33 points, but it was not enough as the Pioneers fell 69-49 in Siouxland Conference play to Sheldon. Bryson McCabe scored a team-high 15 points, James Halbur registered nine points and Dalton Syverson hauled in eight rebounds. Okoboji is now 0-5 with Trinity Christian coming to Milford on Monday, a game that will air right here on KUOO.
Despite Beau Craig’s 20-point effort, the Graettinger-Terril Knights couldn’t hang with Armstrong-Ringsted and suffered a 68-53 setback in the Cornbelt Conference. The Mustangs received 17 points from Travis Hantelman and 15 points from Spencer Clausen.
