Indians Limited Before Opening Postseason, Emmetsburg Claims Lakes Title (Softball)

The softball teams from Spirit Lake and Storm Lake also put the finishing touches on their regular season as well, and again it was the Tornadoes escaping with a narrow victory, 3-0 in a pitcher’s dual. Scoreless through four innings, Storm Lake registered four consecutive two-out singles against sophomore Cara Vale to score three runs. Spirit Lake will host Sibley-Ocheyedan in first round action of Districts on Thursday night.

Second-ranked Emmetsburg put the finishing touches on a Lakes Conference softball title with a 4-2 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central. Maddison Woodruff earned the 100th win of her career as the EHawks improve to 13-1 in league play. Morgan Vlasman hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put Emmetsburg ahead for good. They open up the postseason Thursday against Sioux Central. ELC travels to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
