Indians Hang On Late, Pioneers Fall at Home, And HLP, GT Split (Baseball RoundUp)

Spirit Lake held on for their fifth Lakes Conference win Monday, taking down Western Christian, 3-1. The Indians are now 5-2 in the league and 13-5 overall. Storm Lake notched a pair of league wins over Emmetsburg, sweeping a doubleheader with a 10-0 win in five innings, followed by an 11-2 decision. The Tornadoes are 7-1 in the Lakes, while Emmetsburg remains winless at 0-8. The E-Hawks take on Sioux Central in Sioux Rapids on Tuesday.

Okoboji took a home loss in Siouxland Conference play Monday, falling to West Lyon 6-2. The Pioneers mustered just five hits and were struck out ten times by the Wildcats Jonathan Van Beek. The loss drops Okoboji below .500 in the league at 4-5. They are 7-11 on the season. Next up is a doubleheader in Milford on Tuesday, with game one against Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, and game two against Pocahontas.

Rivals Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terril battled to a split of one-run games in a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader. The Wolves earned the W in game one, 2-1. Colin Brons allowed three hits and struck out five. Jake Ihnen registered a run scored and a RBI on two hits, while Ryan Mann also drove in a run on two hits. The nightcap went to the Knights by an 8-7 final. Nathan Kyle issued seven walks and surrendered six hits in three-plus innings as he took the loss. Jake Ihnen was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Ryan Mann again scored a run and brought in a run on two hits. Harris-Lake Park sits at 2-4 in conference and 3-9 overall.
