A double-digit halftime lead wasn’t enough Saturday night for the boys basketball team from Spirit Lake, as Jackson County Central rallied at home to take a 57-54 win over the Indians in a non-conference border battle. The two teams exchanged leads throughout the second half before the Huskies secured the victory at the free throw line. Leading all scorers was JCC senior Ty Schwarting with 26 points, hitting five three-pointers in the process. Junior Logan Hall had ten points off the bench for the now 1-0 Huskies. Spirit Lake’s leading scorer was senior Mitch Peschon, who dropped in 17 points. Tayler Acton recorded eleven points, Paul Brown registered ten and junior Zubeen Azari came off the bench to put up ten, as well. The 0-2 Indians will make their home debut on Tuesday against Lakes Conference-rival Spencer, and we’ll have the game on KUOO Campus Radio.
Non-conference rivals Graettinger-Terril and Estherville Lincoln Central squared off this past weekend and the Knights defended their home turf with a narrow 53-50 victory behind a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds from Beau Craig. Cody Chapman had thirteen points in the win. ELC received a 15 point effort from Matt Burrell, while Tyler Lutz dropped in a dozen.
