Indians Enjoy Success on Track

Spirit Lake Park boys track won a rain-shortened meet in Storm Lake in convincing fashion Tuesday. The Indians tallied 116 points, while LeMars finished second with 86. Spencer wound up in fifth place and Estherville Lincoln Central came in eighth. Kyle Heidebrink paced SLP with two first place finishes in the 110 (15.06) and 400 (56.96) hurdles. Other top performers included Alec Baldwin in the 1600 (4:31.76) meter run, Keith Byars in the 3200 (10:20.19) meter run, and Dalton Kelley in the discuss (148’11”). Lightning ended the meet with four events to go.

The girls track and field team of Spirit Lake Park hosted its annual Sheryl Maahs Relays and came away with a narrow second place finish. Algona registered a half-point more than SLP’s 126. Estherville finished third, Emmetsburg fourth, Martin County West fifth, Okoboji sixth, and Sibley-Ocheyedan seventh. Megan Lawler and McKenzie Dziedzic both had two first place finishes. Lawler set a new meet record with a time of 12.41 in the 100 meter dash, while also taking gold in the 200 (26.71). Dziedzic’s hardware came in the 1500 (5:22.85) and 3000 (11:33.33) meter runs. Also finishing atop the medal stand were the 4×200 relay (Lawler, Alex Horsman, Lindsey Arneson, Caila Jones; 1:51.61) and Sprint Medley (Arneson, Horsman, Jones, Lawler; 1:57.23) teams.
