The Spirit Lake offense wasted no time getting runs on the scoreboard Friday night in a 15-6 baseball victory over Emmetsburg. Mitch Peschon highlighted the early success with a grand slam in the second inning, his second home run of the season. The senior finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Paul Brown went the distance for the Indians, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out five. Ryan Kliegl took the loss for the E-Hawks, going just two innings and surrendering nine runs on five hits while walking seven. Tyler Henderson had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run. The Indians are now 6-0, while Emmetsburg drops to 2-2.
Okoboji grabbed yet another Siouxland Conference win by taking down Central Lyon, 6-4. Zach Jones struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on seven hits for the win. The bottom of the Pioneers’ order went 5-for-7 to set the table for the win. Dalton Syverson drove in a pair of runs. The Pioneers go to 3-3 overall and now 2-1 in the leauge.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hit the road in the War Eagle Conference and came away with a 10-4 defeat of Remsen Union. Greg Hegsted fell just shy of the cycle as he registered three hits and stole three bases.
In other baseball action, Storm Lake took down Spencer 8-5 in the Lakes Conference, while Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted split a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader. GT/RA grabbed a 13-3 win, while NSK/AR won 15-5.
