Indians Boys T&F Dominate Home Meet, Girls Take Second (High School T&F RoundUp)

Sheryl Maas Track in Spirit Lake was the site of a seven-team track and field invite Tuesday night and the hometown Indians nearly pulled off the sweep in boys and girls. Spirit Lake Park finished first in the boys competition with 162 points, 68 more than second place Emmetsburg. Okoboji came in third, followed Estherville-Lincoln Central in fourth, Clay Central-Everly fifth, South O’Brien sixth and NSK/AR seventh. SLP set five meet records on the evening, none bigger than Alec Baldwin’s 1600m run of 4:15.41, which is now the fastest time in the entire state for all classes. Other meet records were established by Will Norris in the 3200m (10:03.03), Keith Byers in the 800m (1:59.1), Kevin Martinson in the 400m hurdles (56.55), and by the 4×400 relay team of Martinson, Luke Kabele, Kayne Feldick, and Baldwin (3:27.15). Other first place winners for SLP were Dalton Kelley in the discus (144’6”), the 4×800 relay (Kyle Anderson, Paul Woizeschke, Tanner Goetsch, Pat Woizeschke – 8:55.39), the medley relay (DJ Smith, Casey Spaeth, Mychal Sheridan, Norris – 3:51.78), and the shuttle hurdle relay (Smith, Martinson, Cody Poock, Aric Waltz – 62.89).The Indians also notched five second place finishes.

Okoboji’s boys team was led by Alex Koepp, who grabbed their lone first place honor with a long jump of 21’3”. Koepp, along with Brian Dubois, Dalton Syverson, and Austin Millard teamed up for a second place run in the 4×400 relay (3:41). Millard also grabbed the silver in the 800m (2:04) and Jacob Sauter threw the shot 43’7”, good for second.

On the girls side, Spencer was the overall meet winner with 157 team points, with Spirit Lake Park right behind at 144. Estherville-Lincoln Central placed third at 103, then it was NSK/AR in fourth, Okoboji fifth, Clay Central-Everly sixth, South O’Brien seventh and Forest Ridge eighth. The Indians were paced by Molly Hutchins, who grabbed two first place finishes. Hutchins was tops in the shot put at 35’10” and the discus at 105’1”. Kendra Stokke also stood atop the medal stand, taking first in the 400m hurdles (71.32). The Indians also benefitted from eight second place finishes, including Emily Mercer in the shot put (33’10.5”) and discus (92’8”), Dondi Schmidt in the 3000m (11:52.32), Brianna Brunsvold in the 1500m (5:41.6), Kendra Stokke in the high jump (4’8”), as well as the 4×800 relay (Bailey Heikens, Jessie Kabele, Liz Skogerboe, Morgan Walz – 11:20.74), the distance medley relay (Carter Hassel, Caitlin Eckerman, Katir Hamilton, Briana Brunsvold – 4:54.69) and the shuttle hurdle (Stokke, Miranda Brueggeman, Kayla Herrig, Kaela Delperdang – 74.16).
