The softball Indians notched two more wins yesterday, defeating George-Little Rock 7-2 and Sioux Center 10-0 in five innings to start the Sheldon Tournament. Paige Krause recorded the win in game one, while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Cara Vale got the save in the opener and the win in game two. Spirit Lake improves to 6-3 overall.
Harris-Lake Park softball went in search of the first win of the season as they opened Cornbelt Conference play Friday with a doubleheader against West Bend-Mallard; however, the Wolverines would complete a sweep of the Wolves behind a 16-4 win and a walk-off 5-4 win. Game one featured ten HLP errors and a seven-run seventh inning to pull away. Noreen Morrow did hit a solo home run in the game. The Wolves rallied in game two, which saw the three lead changes and three ties until the final at bat. Tied at four in the bottom of the seventh, ace Jena Peters, who relieved Macy Gunderson a frame uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the winning run to score. Despite the loss, the Wolves committed just a single error in the nightcap. Deni Peters led the Wolves offense in game two, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Jena Peters took the loss in both games. HLP is now 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in the Cornbelt.
Emmetsburg kept its perfect season in tact on the softball diamond, defeating Sioux Central 12-0 in three innings. The EHawks have won six straight to start the summer.
