Iowa Lakes softball hosted Ellsworth Community College on
Monday April 8 for a conference double header. In game one the Lakers were
unable to come back after a big sixth inning from ECC; losing the game 8-10.
Leading the way for the Iowa Lakes was Jessica Abrahamson,
Alexandria Frausto, and Amber Holmgren; all going 3 for 4 from the plate –
combining for 7 RBI’s and 4 doubles. Frausto was the losing pitcher for the
game; giving up 10 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strike outs.
In game two the Lakers started out hot from the plate, when
Jessica Abrahamson hit a 3-run-homerun in the bottom of the first.
“As game two went on, our team started to get comfortable,”
said head coach Jess VanLoy. “We needed to continue to push; getting runners on
and forcing Ellsworth to play our style of game.”
The Lakers were un able to score after the second inning,
giving Ellsworth the opportunity to take the game over and end up winning 7-15.
Kristi Larson and Jess Abrahamson went 2 for 3 on the day. Alex Frausto got the
loss in game two as well, giving up 14 hits, 1 walk and 4 strike outs.
“We need to get back to the basics and play ‘Laker Softball’
like we know how. Our infield is making too many errors mentally and
physically, which makes keeping a lead difficult. We are close to half way
through our season and need to start making strides in the right direction—not
backwards,” coach VanLoy commented.
Iowa Lakes has games on Friday at Iowa Falls against
Ellsworth again, weather permitting.
