ILCC Softball Enjoys Early Success in Sunshine State

The Iowa Lakes softball team tallied seven wins in ten games as they opened their regular season with a swing through the state of Florida last week. It began with the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Panama City. The Lakers took down Wabash in their opening game, 7-3, before taking setbacks against Tallahassee and Wallace, last year’s NJCAA national runner-up. The highlight of the week came next, with a 6-4 decision over No. 1-ranked Miami Dade to start tournament play. However, that was followed up by another loss against Wallace.

The rest of the trip was in Clermont, FL, for the NTC Spring Break Tournament. There the Lakers defeated Glen Oaks 12-1 and Grand Rapids 9-7. In a rematch with Grand Rapids later in the week, Taylor Mackey hurled a one-hitter for an 11-0 shutout win. The week concluded with a win over Thiel.

Iowa Lakes returns home after their 11-day trip through the Sunshine State and will open conference play against Ellsworth on March 24.
