IHSAA Sets New Football Practice Regulations

The
Iowa High School Activities Association has invoked some new rules regarding
High School Football Practice in the State of Iowa.
Here are some of the new rules:

(1) Only
one practice can be held per day.

(2) Practice
cannot exceed three hours in length. That includes Warm-up, stretching, speed
and agility rules, strength training, and cool down.  Optional weight training activities that are
available to all students are not considered part of the practice.

(3) The
first two days of practice can incorporate helmets and mouth guards, but cannot
include activities that require protective equipment.

(4)
During days three through five, helmets, mouth guards, and shoulder pads may be
worn, and contact with blocking sleds, tackling dummies and technique drills
for blocking and tackling may begin, but no full contact. Players can focus on
proper tackling and blocking techniques with above the waist contact.

(5)
Starting on day six, all protective equipment may be worn and full contact
drills may begin.

(6)
The first two Sundays during the 14-day acclimatization period should be days
of complete rest (no practice, stretching, conditioning, speed and agility
drills, strength training, etc.)
