Ihnen Leads HLP Past Emmetsburg, Okoboji Suffers Road Setback, ELC First Time Winner (Boys Basketball RoundUp)

A tight, non-conference boys basketball game in Emmetsburg went the way of the visitors, with Harris-Lake Park taking a 68-60 ballgame on Monday night. The Wolves and E-Hawks both shot better than 44-percent for the game, and hit a combined eight three-pointers in the fourth quarter alone. Eli Ihnen connected on five shots outside the arc on his way to a career-high 35 points. Brady Nissen pitched in with 20 points. Emmetsburg had three players score in double figures, led by Marcus Akridge’s 17 points. Ryan Kliegl tallied 15 points and Jake Jackson had thirteen points. The win pushes HLP to a 5-0 start on the season and will return home to host North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted on Friday. Emmetsburg falls to an even 2-2 overall and welcomes rival Spencer to town this evening for a Lakes Conference doubleheader, which can be heard on Y100.

Okoboji found itself with another tough test in the Siouxland Conference at Central Lyon on Monday, and despite maintaining a lead in the second quarter, the Pioneers fell 70-47. The Lions put together short runs to end each quarter, effectively erasing Okoboji’s advantage, and propelling Central Lyon to the victory. Dalton Syverson scored a team-high 14 points, as Okoboji drops to 0-5 in conference play and 0-6 on the season. Another crack at this winter’s first victory will come Friday with a home game against Rock Valley, a contest to be aired on Q102.

A notch in the win column finally happened last night for the Midgets of Estherville-Lincoln Central, taking down North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted 57-36 in a non-conference matchup. A 12-0 run early in the game sparked the victory, as did Evan Hansen with a game-high 14 points. Brad Olsen registered a dozen points and Matt Burrell reached eleven points. ELC now sits at 1-5 and hosts Storm Lake in the conference contest tonight. NSK/AR falls back to 2-4 overall and welcomes Clay Central-Everly to Fenton this evening.
