Jackson County Central can claim two individual state champions, as both Darick Vancura and Cooper Moore finished a top the medal stand at the in the Class A Minnesota State Wrestling Championshps in St. Paul. Moore, a senior, capped a perfect season with his 50th win to claim the crown at 170 pounds. He defeated Travis Schiefelbein from Kimball Area by major decision, 13-2. Vancura, a junior, was nearly perfect en route to his championship run at 160 pounds. He earned a 12-7 decision over Jordan Rothers, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the finals to end the year at 48-1.
Three other Huskies will come back with medals around their neck. Freshman Luke Norland took fourth place at 152 pounds after losing to Mitchell Rohlik of Wabasso/Red Rock Central. Norland went 38-13 this season. Junior Eliot Jurries and freshman Paden Moore both ended the two-day competition in fifth place. Jurries defeated Andy Poster from Royalton/Upsala by a 3-1 decision to finish 43-10 at 126 pounds, while Moore also tallied a 3-1 decision over Mahnomen/Waubun’s Garret Hoffner at 145 pounds to go 40-12 this year.
In the Class AA field, Bryan Andrews and Trevor Schultz represented Fairmont/Martin County West on the medal stand. Andrews wound up in third place with a 24-7 tech fall win over Pat Hopkins of Grand Rapids at 152 pounds. The senior finishes the year at 33-5. Schultz, a junior, went 47-6 on the year and ended the tournament in fourth place at 106 pounds after falling 9-5 against Jakob Stageberg of New London/Spicer. That same bracket saw Anthony Luft of Worthington/Round Lake-Brewster grab fifth place honors. The sophomore defeated Tyler Funk from Foley in triple overtime, 4-2, to finish at 40-9.
