HLP Wins Finale, Okoboji Loses 13th Straight (Baseball RoundUp)

Three area baseball teams closed out their regular season’s on Thursday. Okoboji took on George-Little Rock in one final Siouxland Conference battle, but would fall in second straight high-scoring game, 12-10. The Pioneers have scored 21 runs in two straight setbacks, and have now lost thirteen straight heading into district play. Okoboji is 7-20 overall and 4-12 in the league. They play Spirit Lake on Saturday in Estherville to open the Class 2A playoffs.

Harris-Lake Park notched one final win in the regular season, a non-conference 4-1 decision over Sibley-Ocheyedan on Thursday. Jake and Eli Ihnen combined for four hits, two runs and a RBI. Brennan Krogman pitched in with two driven in on one hit. Colin Brons held the Generals to two hits and an unearned run to get the win. HLP has won four of their last five and finish with an 8-15 record before next week’s district game.

Emmetsburg doubled up Newell-Fonda 16-8 in their final regular season contest. The E-Hawks tallied 16 hits, led by Taylor Wagner’s three and four others with two hits apiece. Wagner drove in six runs on the night, while Ryan Kliegl had three RBI with a home run and Jake Jackson went deep once. Wagner also struck out seven for the win, Emmetsburg’s fifth of the season. They open the postseason Saturday at Alta/Aurelia.

And Alta/Aurelia defeated Spencer by a 12-9 final on Thursday. The Tigers’ Dillon Schulz had two hits, one a home run in the loss. Spencer falls to 14-10 with a home game against Algona Bishop Garrigan on Friday.
