HLP Takes Another Postseason Setback to NSK (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

A barrage of first half three-pointers by North Sentral Kossuth created too big a gap for the Harris-Lake Park girls basketball team to overcome, as the Lady Wolves fell 65-47 in the second-round of the Class 1A regional tournament on Tuesday. The Eagles hit seven three’s in the first half and ten in the game. Kelsey Gerhart led all scorers with 19 points, connecting on six shots from beyond the arc. Collete Haag finished with 16 points as NSK moves on to the regional semifinals at Spencer on Friday. There they will face Newell-Fonda, who eliminated West Bend-Mallard 56-36. As for HLP, they were led by Anna Brandt and Mariah Gath, both of whom scored 14 points. Noreen Morrow also reached double-digits with ten, all of them coming in the third quarter. The Wolves finish out the year at 13-8 overall.

In the other half of the Class 1A, Region 1 bracket, Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn took down Ruthven-Ayrshire 63-45. MMC will meet George-Little Rock in the semifinals after the Mustangs got by Central Lyon 50-39.

In Class 2A, Region 2, Lakes Conference champion Estherville-Lincoln Central kept it rolling with a 68-33 win over Forest City. The Midgets are into the regional semifinals on Friday at Algona, where they will square off with Manson Northwest Webster. They defeated Fort Dodge St. Edmond 52-30.

The Class 2A, Region 1 bracket saw Sioux Central get past Alta/Aurelia 54-41. Next for the Rebels is a semifinal matchup with top-ranked OA-BCIG, who eliminated Ridge View 80-37. The top-half of the bracket features Sioux Center and Western Christian advancing to the third-round. The Warriors topped Sheldon 66-29, and the Wolfpack won 55-44 over Hinton.
