HLP Sweets GT, Indians Swept By Defending State Champs (Volleyball RoundUp)

A three-game sweep of rival Graettinger-Terril on Tuesday has the Harris-Lake Park volleyball team a perfect 2-0 in Cornbelt Conference play. The Wolves earned set wins of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-11 to notch their sixth win of the season. Noreen Morrow smashed a game-high 11 kills, while senior Leah Duitsman tallied nine kills. Miranda Brueggeman had four services aces. The Knights, who fall to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play, were led by Grace Skattebo with four kills. Nikki Brown had two kills and three aces. Alyssa Hoffman served up four aces.

Elsewhere in the Cornbelt, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted dropped West Bend-Mallard in four sets, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 28-26

In the Lakes Conference opener for Spirit Lake, the Indians traveled to Hull to battle defending state champion Western Christian, but suffered a three-game sweep, 25-12, 25-10, and 25-21. Kendra Stokke registered eight kills and Whitney Berkland racked up 15 set assists.

Emmetsburg dropped three straight games in a setback to Cherokee, falling 25-21, 25-12, and 25-14. Estherville Lincoln Central needed five sets to gain a conference win at Storm Lake, beating the Tornadoes 25-14, 21-25, 25-16, 14-25, and 15-8.

North of the border, top ranked Jackson County Central swept right through Mankato East, 25-8, 25-9, 25-15. Martin County West won in three games, 25-6, 29-27, 25-16. Fairmont needed four sets to pick up the win over Waseca, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19. And Worthington dropped a five-setter to Red Rock Central, 24-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13,
15-9.
