HLP Remains Perfect, Okoboji Drops Another (Boys Basketball RoundUp)

Harris-Lake Park is off to a 3-0 start to the boys basketball season following Friday night’s 69-42 defeat of Ruthven-Ayrshire in a Cornbelt Conference matchup. The Wolves used a 20-point second quarter to create some separation from the Raiders, and took a 37-19 lead into halftime. Sophomore Eli Ihnen was the game’s top scorer with 19 points. Brady Nissen and Steven Hibma also reached double-digits with ten apiece. Leading the offense for Ruthven-Ayrshire was junior Dylan Smith, who dropped in 14 points, followed by senior Colton Bakken with eleven. The Raiders are now 0-2 overall to start the season, as well as in conference, and will travel to Storm Lake next Tuesday to battle St. Mary’s. Meanwhile, the Wolves will put their perfect record on the line at Armstrong-Ringsted, also on Tuesday of next week.

In the Siouxland Conference, Okoboji hit the road for the first time this season to battle George-Little Rock, however, the Pioneers would fall by a 50-24 margin. The Mustangs pulled away by outscoring Okoboji by ten in the second quarter, but head coach Ryan Paulsen says it was a surge to start the second half that did in his Pioneers despite a solid defensive effort. Okoboji shot just 2-of-25 from beyond the three-point line. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the young season and 0-2 in conference play. Next up they travel to West Lyon on Tuesday.
