HLP, GTRA, & Okoboji’s Ohl Advance to Districts (Golf RoundUp)

Park is moving on to the
next level of the golf postseason. The Wolves, who hosted the Class 1A
Sectional at Silver
Lake on Friday, came in
with the second best team score at 347 to qualify for districts. Algona Bishop
Garrigan won the event with a 340, and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire was
third at 363, which also pushes GT/RA to districts in Spencer on May 17. Central Lyon finished fourth (366), Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn
fifth (370), West Bend-Mallard sixth (379), and Clay Central-Everly seventh
(419). Freshman Ryan Gembler paced HLP with a 78, tying for the low round of the
day, though he would lose in a playoff to Bishop Garrigan’s Eli Marlow for
medalist honors. Nathan Kyle was third with an 83, Ryan Mann came in with an 89,
and Tanner Hiveley carded a 97. GT/RA received an 85 from Dylan Smith, a 90 by
Blaze Alesch, a 91 on the card of Mitch Girres, and a 97 from Ethan Peterson.

The Class 2A Sectional was hosted by Okoboji at Emerald
Hills, and the Pioneers would fall nine strokes shy of qualifying as a team.
Okoboji shot a 341 team score to finish fourth. East Sac County won the team title with a 319,
followed by Alta/Aurelia at 332 to advance. In third was Sibley-Ocheyedan with
a 336, Emmetsburg came in fifth (355), Cherokee was sixth (385), Sioux Central
seventh (387), and North Union eighth (401). Zach Mason of East Sac was the
meet medalist with a 71. Tyler Ohl was atop the Okoboji leaderboard with a 79,
placing the sophomore third overall and into the district meet in Storm Lake
on May 18. The Pioneers also counted Wes Burgeson’s 84, James Halbur’s 87, and
Michael Luhrs’ 91.

In Class 3A, teams gathered in Spencer to compete in the sectional
at Spencer Country Club. The top team was Humboldt at 326, followed by Storm Lake
with a 328 to qualify for districts in Carroll. MOC-Floyd Valley was third
(331), followed by Spencer fourth at 335, Spirit Lake fifth with a 345,
Estherville-Lincoln Central sixth at 355, Algona seventh (358), and LeMars
eighth (380). Meet medalist was Ryan Gutz from Storm Lake
with a round of 74.
