HLP Establishes New Benchmark, Indians & Wolves Fall (Volleyball RoundUp)

Harris-Lake Park put the finishing touches on a historic regular season Tuesday night with a three-game sweep over Cornbelt Conference rival Ruthven-Ayrshire, 25-10, 25-21, 25-14. The match victory gives the Lady Wolves 24 on the season, equaling the school record for match wins in a single campaign. Sophomore Lydia Brandt provided all the necessary fire power with 14 kills. Freshman Noreen Morrow was next with six kills, while fellow freshman Macy Gunderson recorded 16 set assists, seven digs and three aces. Senior Sam Brueggeman served up five aces and notched 14 digs for HLP, which finishes alone in second place with a 9-1 record in conference behind undefeated North Sentral Kossuth. Ruthven-Ayrshire was paced by senior Kayla Dyer’s six kills. Sadie Forey finished with three kills and two aces. The Wolves will now prepare for next Wednesday’s playoff opener at home against Spalding Catholic (live on Q102 and ExploreOkoboji.com), while the Raiders will draw Laurens-Marathon in the opening round.

Other Cornbelt Conference scores include NSK defeating third place WCLT in straight sets to complete their 2010 title, 25-15, 25-10, 25-9.

In the Lakes Conference, Spirit Lake played host to top-ranked Western Christian, and the Wolfpack dominated the Indians in a three game match win, 25-9, 25-6, 25-14. Kendra Stokke had three of Spirit Lake’s overall ten kills, while also coming up with seven digs. Paige Krause dished out four assists and Holly Seemann was involved in five blocks, three solo. The Indians finish conference play with a 2-5 mark, and will participate in the Storm Lake Tournament this weekend.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, Storm Lake took down Estherville-Lincoln Central in four sets, 25-21, 25-14, 19-25, 25-13.

Okoboji has just one regular season match remaining following last night’s loss in three sets to Boyden-Hull, 25-20, 25-15, 27-25. Mikkinzie Peschong paced the attack with seven kills, to go along with five blocks. Bryanna Wittrock had six kills. Aubry Kolegraff handed out thirteen assists, while Mary Eckard had 14 digs and an ace, and Taylor Poppema finished with a dozen digs. Okoboji will wrap up the regular season at home Thursday against MOC-Floyd Valley, a match that can be heard on Q102 and live on ExploreOkoboji.com.

North of the border, top-ranked Jackson County Central took care of Blue Earth in three games, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21, Martin County West dispensed Alden-Conger in straight sets, 25-7, 25-9, 25-19, Fairmont used four games to defeat St. Peter, 25-5, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, and Round Lake-Brewster fell at Adrian in five games, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 17-25, 15-9.
