HLP Drops Season Finale, Pioneers Net Road Win (Baseball)

On the baseball diamond, the regular season came to a close in the Cornbelt Conference with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire’s 10-4 victory at Harris-Lake Park. A 1-0 game was broke open in the fourth when HLP’s Jake Ihnen and Ryan Mann combined to walk six straight batters, all of whom came in to score. Taylor Harris went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Knights. Colin Brons drove in two for the Wolves, and senior Justin Bunkers had a RBI and crossed home once. Harris-Lake Park finishes the regular season at 5-14 on the season and 3-9 in conference, while the Knights are 11-9 overall and 9-5 in league play. Both will open the postseason next week Tuesday.

Also last night, Okoboji notched another Siouxland Conference victory, defeating Sioux Center 4-2 in the regular season finale. Zach Jones was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Ray Zalabowski recorded the save. The Pioneers open postseason play Saturday against Emmetsburg in Estherville.
