HLP Boys Notch #15, Boji Splits at West Lyon (Basketball RoundUp)

It wasn’t easy, but the Harris-Lake Park boys basketball team made it to 15 wins without a loss, courtesy of Monday’s 68-60 road triumph over Trinity Christian in Hull. The Wolves led 29-16 at the half, however, Trinity scored 25 fourth-quarter points to get as close as six points. Eli Ihnen registered a double-double of 30 points, twelve rebounds. Tanner Hiveley contributed 16 points, Brady Nissen had eleven, and Kade Heikens dished out ten assists. HLP returns to Cornbelt Conference play on Friday at North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted.

The Okoboji girls made sure the long ride back from Inwood would be enjoyable, as they led from start to finish in a 50-42 Siouxland Conference game against West Lyon. The Pioneers, who normally average 35 points a game, led 30-21 at halftime. Mikkinzie Peschong poured in a team-high thirteen points, Skylar Hansen dropped in ten, and the other three scorers for Okoboji each had nine points. The Wildcats received 16 points from Denyelle Viereck, and fall to 2-12 in conference games. The win snaps a three-game losing streak, and pushes the Pioneers to 4-9 in league play, 5-11 overall.

West Lyon steadily pulled away from the Okoboji boys basketball team Monday night, eventually securing a 64-44 win over the Pioneers in Inwood. Okoboji had eight players reach the scoring column, paced by Keith Oskvig’s dozen points. Three players finished in double digits for the Wildcats, with Cody Bauman scoring a game-high 18 points. West Lyon brings their league record to an even 6-6, while Okoboji falls to 1-11. The Pioneers will host Sheldon on Tuesday, a twinbill to air on Q102.

In other high school basketball, George-Little Rock swept a doubleheader against Unity Christian. The Mustangs took the boys game 67-60, after earning a 50-29 victory in the girls contest. Central Lyon also picked up a pair of non-conference win, defeating Hills-Beaver Creek, MN. The Lions more than doubled up HBC in the girls matchup, 67-31, then dominated the boys outing, 66-42.

North of the border, the boys of Southwest Star Concept earned a 50-48 victory over Mountain Lake Christian.
