Back-to-back five-run innings propelled the Harris-Lake Park softball team into the second round of the Class 1A Regional playoffs, as the Wolves defeated Clay Central-Everly 16-6 in six innings Wednesday in Lake Park. HLP tallied ten runs on ten hits in the second and third innings combined, sending 19 batters to the plate. The Wolves went on to score at least one run in every inning against the Mavericks. Leadoff hitter Mariah Gath went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one driven in. Macy Gunderson followed with two hits, three runs and three RBI. Lydia Brandt was 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and three scored, while Noreen Morrow plated three on as many hits. The Wolves finished with 20 hits, eight of which went for extra bases. Macy Gunderson hurled her way to the win, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Kelsy McCarty hit a two-run homer for CCE, which also got a pair of hits from Ally Phelps and Emily Jobst. Phelps scored two runs and drove in another, while Jobst crossed home twice. Phelps also suffered the loss, lasting just two innings and allowing a dozen runs. The Mavericks season ends with a 2-25 record. HLP will take their 10-19 mark to Larchwood on Friday to battle West Lyon in the second round. The Wildcats earned an 11-0 win over Trinity Christian in six innings. The game will be broadcast live on KUOO.
Graettinger-Terril had their season end in the first round of the Class 1A Regionals, falling 17-5 in four innings to West Bend-Mallard in Algona. The Knights finish the year 10-20. Ruthven-Ayrshire also lost their postseason opener, an 11-1 setback to Laurens-Marathon in five innings in Algona. The Raiders cap their season at 4-17. Laurens-Marathon will now square off with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in the Hawks Class 1A opener tonight in Hartley. That contest can be heard live on Q102 and at ExploreOkoboji.com starting at 6:45pm.

The Midgets will finish the regular season as co-champions of the Lakes Conference following Emmetsburg’s 10-0 victory over Spirit Lake in six innings on Wednesday. The E-Hawks broke open a close, 2-0 game in the sixth with eight runs. Sami Ashland allowed just three earned runs for the Indians, who only tallied three hits offensively. At 19-15, they will travel to Algona to wrap up the regular season on Thursday. Emmetsburg finishes with a 12-2 league record, tied atop the standings with Estherville-Lincoln Central.
