Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost their season opener in three games Tuesday night at West Lyon. The Hawks won the first game by a 23-21 decision, but dropped the next two games, 21-19 and 15-13.
Estherville-Lincoln Central had to go the distance in their season opener to earn a win at Sioux Central. The first four games were decided by two points each and were split between the two teams, before the Midgets pulled out a 15-10 victory in the decisive fifth game. The other scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, and 24-26.
