The Iowa Lakes Soccer teams will hold their second annual Halloween Scrimmage this Thursday evening, the same night as Moonlight Madness in downtown Spencer this year.
The event will be held starting at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 at ‘The Lakehouse’ Soccer Field and the public is invited to ‘come hungry’ to the event and bring a stuffed animal.
All youth are encouraged to come in costume to ‘Trick or Treat’ in a safe environment. Miniature treats will be available free during the match-up at the concession stand. In addition, chili, hot dogs, Coney Dogs, nachos and other ‘larger’ candy bars will be available for purchase during the game.
The concession stand will also be the first location people can donate a stuffed animal to be given to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
“We invite everyone to come out Thursday at 5 p.m. It’s a great opportunity for young children to safely Trick or Treat as well as watch the college soccer members play in costumes,” Head Soccer Coach Kevin Farley said. “We want kids to meet us after the game downtown at Moonlight Madness where we’ll be autographing posters at the Goal Kick and a few other selected businesses starting at around 6 p.m.”
The Goal Kick location will be the second opportunity the public has to donate stuffed animals for the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
The Halloween costumed scrimmage is a long-time tradition for teams of Coach Farley.
The scrimmage combines members of the men’s and women’s teams who will be divided into two squads which will play two, 15-minute periods. Teams will be named the Ghouls and the Goblins. Assistant Coach for the women, Jessica Cannova, is the coach for the Ghouls; while Jayke Vallette, Assistant Coach for the men’s team will lead the Goblins.
Head Coach Kevin Farley will don a different ‘hat’ that evening as he will serve as the referee of the match.
“There will be plenty to do Thursday. First, come to the Lakehouse for some great soccer fun and then go downtown for the Moonlight Madness,” said Coach Farley. “We really encourage everyone to shop the Moonlight Madness event because this gives our players a chance to know more people in the community.”
Prizes will be awarded to the team members who are wearing the best costumes.
