Non-conference rivals Okoboji and
Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire squared off Tuesday in Terril, with the home
team earning a 6-3 victory over the Pioneers. GTRA racked up eleven hits, with
Hailey Nelson picking up two base knocks and scoring two runs. Alyssa Hoffman
struck out four and surrendered just four hits and one earned run for the win.
Okoboji’s Mikkinzie Peschong took the loss in the circle, while the offense was
powered by Olivia Rohlk with two hits. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire is
4-9 this summer and hosts Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer on Thursday. Okoboji
will take a 5-5 mark into Thursday’s Siouxland Conference contest at Central
Lyon/George-Little Rock.
Spirit
Lake took advantage of
sloppy defense in a 9-2 road win against Sioux Central. Paige Krause smashed a
solo home run, her second of the season. Cara Vale went all seven innings for
the win, improving to 5-1. Sioux Central has lost seven straight games to start
the season, while Spirit
Lake pushes their record
to 7-6 overall. The Indians are at LeMars on Wednesday.
Behind a one-hitter from their senior pitcher,
Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn downed Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 11-1, in six innings on
Tuesday in a War Eagle Conference matchup. Kayla Foresman also struck out five
batters and forced the Hawks to strand six baserunners. Katie Mills had the
lone hit for HMS, an RBI single in the fifth inning. Kendra Zeutenhorst lasted
4 1/3 innings with four earned runs allowed on ten hits. The tenth-ranked
Eagles are 4-2 in league play. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn drops to 2-5 overall, 1-5
in the War Eagle, and travels to Hinton on Wednesday.
Harris-Lake Park battled to a 7-3 win at home Tuesday against Laurens-Marathon. The Lady Wolves are 5-6 on the year and travel to Sibley-Ocheyedan for a non-conference contest Thursday on Q102.
Estherville-Lincoln Central put on a hitting demonstration
in Sioux City
on Tuesday, smashing three home runs and racking up 25 hits in taking a 13-0
victory in three innings over Sioux City North and a 12-1 decision against
Sioux City West in six innings. The ninth-ranked Midgets improve to 8-3 and
host Spencer Wednesday.
In other softball action, MOC-Floyd Valley
dominated Sibley-Ocheyedan, 12-0, for a Siouxland Conference win, and South
O’Brien had not trouble getting past Clay Central-Everly, topping the Mavericks
14-0.
