A trio of Spirit Lake-Okoboji girls tennis players will be making yet another trip to the Iowa State Tennis Championships after successful afternoons at Thursday’s regional. The senior duo of Alli Gerking and Aubrey Kolegraff defeated the tandem of Kristen Allesche and Rachel Ingram of Denison-Schleswig by scores of 6-4, 6-1 to take the doubles title and qualify for state. It marks their fourth consecutive trip to Waterloo for Gerking and Kolegraff.
Joining them for a second straight year, as well, is sophomore KJ Veldman, who earned a 6-4, 6-4 finals victory over Erin Olson of Estherville-Lincoln Central. As runner-up, Olson qualifies for state along with Veldman. Hannah Coenen of Spirit Lake-Okoboji finished fourth in the singles tournament, while the combination of Jamie Kohlhaase and Rachel Westergard managed just a 1-1 record in the doubles bracket.
The girls state individual tennis championships are held June 2-3 at Brynes Park Tennis Center in Waterloo.
