Spirit Lake had 483 total yards in the game.  The bulk of the yards came on the ground as the Indians had 372 yards rushing and 111 yards passing.  They were led by Paul Brown as he was 2 – 4 passing for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns, one each to Nick Amundson and Andrew Ites.  Josh Hofstra led them with 48 yards rushing.  Brandon Stoll finished with 41 yards and 2 touchdowns.  On the defense, Spirit Lake would hold Okoboji to 137 total yards and force 5 turnovers.  Brady Mart would get 10 tackles to led the team.  Okoboji was led by Jordan Hanna as he was 11 – 17 passing for 63 yards and he also rushed for 39 yards.  The lone offensive touchdown for the Pioneers came from Marc Nielsen, 13 yards rushing and 1 TD.  Okoboji had a big night from Alex Menefee as he recovered 2 fumbles and had 78 fumble recovery yards and a touchdown.

Spirit Lake is 1 – 0 and will be at Storm Lake on Friday

Okoboji is 0 – 1 and will have their home opener Friday against Sibley Ocheyedan

HMS took advantage of Sibley-Ocheyedan miscues and turnovers on both sides of the ball. The Hawks struck first with 5:43 to go in the 1st quarter as Logan Rozeboom scampered 66 yards. Two plays later the Hawks made it 9-0 when the Generals fumbled the ball on an option play in to the endzone and the Hawks got a safety. Rozeboom later found pay dirt off an 18 yard run with 11:45 to go in the 2nd to make it 15-0. With less than 2 minutes to go in the 2nd, the Hawks scored twice. A 52 yard pass to Blake Simons made it 22-0. Two plays later Jacob Clark intercepted Generals quarterback Owen Wiese and Simons then scored with :14 to go until halftime off a 34 yard touchdown catch. In the second half, Hunter Kuehl found the endzone on a 63 yard touchdown and Clark ran in from 10 yards out to up the score to 43-0. For Sibley-Ocheyedan, now 0-1, Dalton Frick had 26 yards on the ground to go along with 56 receiving yards. The Generals had just 106 yards of total offense. For the Hawks, Blake Simon had two catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Rozeboom had 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Kuehl had 85 yards rushing and a touchdown. HMS had 282 total yards on the ground. Casey Dorhout and Clark each tallied one interception on defense for the Hawks who are now 1-0. HMS will host West Sioux next week while the Generals travel to Okoboji.

Emmetsburg would jump out to an early lead as Spencer fumbled their play from scrimmage inside their own 10 yard line.  Emmetsburg would score a 14 yard TD run by Andrew Wellik, just 15 seconds into the game.  Emmetsburg would get 2 more TD’s in the quarter and 2 more in the 2nd quarter to lead 32 – 0 at the half.  Spencer would score 2 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to make it an 18 point game but Emmetsburg would put it away with 2 more scores in the 4th.  Spencer would commit 6 turnovers in the loss.  They were led by quarterback Matt Finnern with 121 yards rushing.  Emmetsburg was led by Andrew Wellik with 266 yards and 3 touchdowns
