* Of the 10 Spirit Lake Indians who scored, it was freshman KJ Veldman putting home a career-high 19 points on five 3-pointers to lead Spirit Lake to a 72-42 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Monday night. The Indians knocked down 12 3-pointers as a team and shot 52% from the floor. Spirit Lake (7-1, 3-1 Lakes Conference) heads to The Fieldhouse for a Lakes Conference meeting with Spencer on Tuesday. Spencer recently dropped out of the Top 15 rankings in Class 3A.
Mitch Peschon scored 20 points and Spirit Lake knocked down 14 more free throws than Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn as the Indians picked up a 62-54 win over the Hawks. Neither team shot particularly well, but Indian freshman Paul Brown added 16 points on 4-9 shooting. Spirit Lake (4-4, 0-3 Lakes Conference) are now set for the holidays, returning January 5. Cody Leng scored 18 points for the Hawks while Greg Hegsted added 16. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (2-5)closes out its 2009 slate on Tuesday against South O’Brien.
