Several girls golf teams from the Iowa Great Lakes were crowned District Champs on Monday. Spirit Lake won their Class 3A tournament with a season low team total of 351 at Okoboji View Golf Course, while Clear Lake came in second at 358. Spencer finished in fourth with a 411 total and Estherville-Lincoln Central was seventh. Clear Lake’s Megan Munson was the medalist with a 79; however, the next three spots belonged to the Indians. Maureen Owens was the runner up at 80, Emily Ayres came in third with a personal best 86 and Ashley Nielsen was a shot back in fourth place. The Indians will now play at Clear Lake on May 24 in the Regionals.
Okoboji also won a District championship, dominating their Class 2A tournament in Sheldon. The Pioneers fired a 409, besting second place Sibley-Ocheyedan by 31 strokes. S-O advances to the Regionals courtesy of a handicapped hole over host Sheldon, while Sioux Center was a shot back in fourth place. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn shot a 449 for fifth place. Okoboji’s Kiley Wermersen and Kristina Kaiser shot 93 and 94, respectively to grab the top two spots individually. The Pioneers next travel to Emmetsburg for the Regionals next Monday.
Speaking of Emmetsburg, the EHawks won their district meet with a 368 team total. Jana Hoch’s 89 earned runner-up honors, while Megan Myers was fifth with a 91.
Harris-Lake Park competed in Hawarden in Class 1A and shot a team total of 493 to finish tenth. West Sioux and Remsen Union finished first and second to advance to the Regionals. Sam Brueggeman fired a 113 to pace the Wolves, while teammate Jodi Hibma was five strokes back at 118.
