Spirit Lake beat East
Sac County,
54-14, last night in Wall
Lake. Senior running back Cody Poock scored four first
half touchdowns, and senior quarterback Paul Brown completed 7 of 10 passes for
131 yards and four touchdowns, as the Indians improved to 5-1. Spirit
Lake led 54-0 at
halftime, as the Indians also got two touchdowns from Tyler Peterson. Both Andrew
Ites and Casey Spaeth were on the receiving end of touchdown passes from
Brown. Spirit Lake
is home, Friday, against Clarion-Goldfield.

Emmetsburg beat Western Christian, 40-7. The E-Hawks scored first in the 1st
quarter on the second play from scrimmage as Andrew Wellik scored a 69 yard TD
run just 47 seconds into the game. He would get another one in the first
quarter and finish with 3 rushing touchdowns. Emmetsburg led 21 – 0 after
the 1st qtr. HWC would score in the 2nd quarter to
pull within 21 – 7 but that would be all the scoring that HWC would get.
Emmetsburg outscored them 19 – 0 the rest of the way
Emmetsburg would get around 453
yards of offense and 450 of that on the ground. Andrew Wellik would rush
for 272 yards unofficially and 3 TD’s. He was also the Homecoming King.
South O’Brien used a strong
rushing attack led by tailback Zach Nieman’s 121 yards on 23 carries to beat
HMS 37-14 in Paullina. Quarterback Kody Nelson had 76 yards on the ground
including touchdown runs of 50 yards, 1 yard, and 1 yard to aid the Wolverines,
who improve to 5-1 on the season (3-0 district). They host North
Union next Friday. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was led by quarterback
Casey Dorhout who rushed for 141 yards on 14 carries. He scored the Hawks lone
touchdown in the second half from 1 yard out. Logan Rozeboom got the Hawks
other score in the first half, an 8 yard touchdown run that capped a 12 play,
80 yard drive. The Hawks fall to 4-2 (2-2 district) and host Emmetsburg next
Friday in a game you can hear on Y100.1.
