The Emmetsburg and Okoboji baseball teams would slug it out for 2 hours and 45 minutes Thursday night and in the end Emmetsburg would win 14-11 in 9 innings. Okoboji would get things started by scoring 7 runs in the first 3 innings and led 7-3 after the first 3. Emmetsburg would start chipping away at the lead by scoring 2 in the 4th inning, 1 in the 5th, and 2 in the 6th inning to take the lead 8-7 heading into the bottom of the 7th. In the 7th, Okoboji would score 1 run on 3 walks and send it to the 8th inning. In the 8th, Emmetsburg scores a run to retake the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Okoboji’s Holt Hunziker sends out a homerun to tie it up at 9 and send it to another extra inning. In the 9th, the E’hawks put it out of reach scoring 5 runs all with 2 out and the Pioneers would only get 2 more back in the bottom of the 9th and come up 3 runs short.
Emmetsburg scored 14 runs on 12 hits and were led by Greg Wesley as he went 3-4 with 6 RBI’s and Zach Anderson was 3-5 with 5 RBI’s. Okoboji had 11 runs on 13 hits and were led by Holt Hunziker and his 4-5 night with 4 RBI’s. The Pioneers did have other chances to score as they stranded 15 baserunners.
Okoboji falls to 1-4 and will host Central Lyon Friday. Emmetsburg improves to 3-3 and will be at LeMars Friday.
