Emmetsburg took a perfect record on the road Monday night for a chance to advance into the Class 1A state semifinals, however, a familiar foe would ultimately end the EHawks season. West Lyon led 14-7 at the half, and wasted no time making it a two-score advantage, as Cody Ahrendt ran 85 yards on the opening play of the third quarter for a touchdown. EHawks quarterback Cory Schultes brought Emmetsburg back to within seven with a TD strike to Jake Carlson in the third, but that would be all either team could do offensively for the remainder of the night. Andrew Wellik had 109 yards rushing and a touchdown to lead Emmetsburg, which finishes the year at 11-1. West Lyon advances to the semifinals, where they will play Council Bluffs St. Albert at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, November 13.
