E-Hawks, Midgets Softball in Weekend Tourney (Softball RoundUp)

Several of the state’s top softball teams were on hand Saturday for the Storm Lake Tornado Classic, including the two at the top of the Lakes Conference standings. Emmetsburg, the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, would finish the tournament a perfect 3-0. The E-Hawks defeated Sioux City North 6-3, Westwood by a 9-3 final, and Ft. Dodge St. Edmond 4-1. Faith Schmidt pitched in two of the wins and recorded 20 total strikeouts and allowed just six combined hits.

Estherville-Lincoln Central recorded a 1-2 mark in there three tournament games in Storm Lake. The Midgets, who are ranked 14th in Class 2A, lost 5-3 to Sioux City East, defeated IKM-Manning 11-6, and dropped a 6-0 contest to Alta/Aurelia. Both losses were to teams also ranked in their respected classes.

ELC, which already clinched a share of the Lakes Conference title, can win it out-right Tuesday, when they host Emmetsburg as part of a softball-baseball doubleheader.
