E-Hawks Advance in 2A, While Pioneers and Hawks Stumble (Boys Basketball RoundUp)

A tough season finished out Monday night for the Okoboji boys basketball team in the first round of the Class 2A district tournament. The Pioneers lost 64-43 at South O’Brien to close out a 1-22 season. Sophomore Dalton Syverson had his best game of the year, with 15 points. Keith Oskvig finished with eleven, all at the free throw line, and Brian Dubois notched ten. The Wolverines received 24 points from Chas Biery and 19 more from Adam Paulsen, as they advanced to Thursday second round. South O’Brien will host Sibley-Ocheyedan, who defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 59-34. The Generals balanced attack was paced by Tyler Decker’s thirteen points. The Hawks’ Cody Leng led all scorers with 20 points. HMS wraps up their season with an 8-13 record.

The other half of the Class 2A, District 2 bracket saw Western Christian begin their state title defense with a 65-28 victory over Rock Valley, setting up a second-round meeting with West Lyon, who advanced with a 57-47 decision over Sheldon.

Lakes Conference rivals Emmetsburg and Estherville-Lincoln Central met in the opening round of the playoffs, and the E-Hawks rode a 23-point first quarter lead to a 63-18 rout. The Midgets season ends at 1-20. Emmetsburg, which got 17 points from Nick Wuebker and 14 points from Ryan Kliegl, will host Pocahontas in the next round. They defeated Sioux Central 49-43.

The rest of the District 3 bracket included wins by Alta/Aurelia, 76-68 over OA-BCIG, and Manson Northwest Webster, a 57-54 ballgame against East Sac County.
