Drake Relays (Updated Saturday 11:00am)

High school track and field athletes from the IOwa Great Lakes have concluded their competitions at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. The final team to run was the Okoboji girls 4×100 Shuttle Hurdle unit of Kelsey Crosgrove, Bryanna Wittrock, Taylor Poppema, and Brandi Demuth. The finished fourth in their preliminary heat with a time of 69.76 seconds. Storm Lake qualified for the finals, to be run Saturday afternoon. Demuth, who won her preliminary heat in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds, finished fourth in the finals with a time of 15.54 seconds. Storm Lake’s Slone Masters took sixth in the finals after a second place finish in the prelims. Makenzi Anderson of Okoboji grabbed a sixth place finish in the discuss with a throw of 118’2″. Teammate Amanda Dunn committed fouls on all three of her preliminary throws. Armstrong-Ringsted’s Tyler Tonderum made it to the finals of the boys 100 meter dash and placed fifth with a time of 11.36. He ran a qualifying time of 11.22 seconds.

Spirit Lake Park’s Kyle Heidebrink finished second in his preliminary heat of the boys 110 hurdles with a time of 15.78 seconds, however, missed qualifying for the finals by .6 seconds. Megan Lawler’s 100 meter dash time of 13.16 was good for fourth in her prelim, but fell .18 of a second off the qualifying pace for the finals. Also tonight, the Okoboji girls 4×100 relay will run their preliminary heat at 5:30.

Okoboji-alum and Milford-native Dan Rolling has broke the Iowa record in the decathlon at the Drake Relays. His 6,957 points were good for eighth in this year’s event, but surpassed the previous Iowa Hawkeyes record that was set by Spirit Lake-native Scott Faber in 2000.
