Two of the top baseball teams in the Lakes Conference met in LeMars on Thursday, and in the end, the defending champion Bulldogs got the better of Spirit Lake in a 4-2 contest. LeMars secured the win by scoring twice in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The Indians led early after plating a run in the first. Their second run in the fourth evened the score. Offensively, Spirit Lake tallied six hits, however, defensively, they committed six errors. LeMars is 7-0 on the season. Spirit Lake drops to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They play Thursday in Milford against county rival Okoboji, a game that will air on KUOO.
Spencer jumped out to yet another big start, scoring six runs in the first two innings en route to doubling up Estherville-Lincoln Central, 12-6. The Tigers are 6-2 this summer and now 2-1 in the conference with non-league, home game Thursday against North Union. The Midgets fall to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the Lakes. They are at Algona tonight.
Emmetsburg was unable to grab a league win Wednesday, falling 3-0 at home against Western Christian. The E-Hawks are 1-3 in league games and 3-5 overall. They play at Cherokee on Friday.
In the War Eagle, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was locked down in a 12-2, five-inning loss at Hinton. The setback puts HMS at 6-3 this summer and 3-3 in the conference. The Hawks are at Remsen Union on Friday.
In other baseball action, Central Lyon dominated Sibley-Ocheyedan by a 22-1 final in four innings, while West Lyon shutout George-Little Rock, 10-0.
