Spirit Lake softball made quick work of the Storm Lake Tornadoes on Tuesday, recording a 14-4 win in six innings. The Indians were paced by Alissa Christoffer’s 5-for-5 effort, as the sophomore drove in five runs. Alli Gerking notched three base hits, drove in a pair, and scored four times. Emily Mercer had two hits and two RBI. Pre-freshman Sami Ashland scattered eight Storm Lake hits and allowed four runs. Spirit Lake will take its 6-7 league record to Emmetsburg for one final Lakes Conference showdown on Wednesday.
The chase for the Lakes Conference softball crown got more interesting Tuesday following Emmetsburg’s 5-1 victory at Estherville-Lincoln Central. Faith Schmidt allowed just three hits and struck out seven. The junior also drove in three runs on two hits. The E-Hawks and Midgets both have two losses in conference play.
Okoboji softball took down Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 10-6 to put a cap on Siouxland Conference play this season. The Pioneers finish the regular season with an 8-6 league record and an overall mark of 20-10. They will open the regional playoffs Thursday at home against Estherville-Lincoln Central.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn finished War Eagle Conference play in style, with a 14-3, five-inning beat down over rival South O’Brien on Tuesday. The Hawks went 6-11 in conference and will take an 11-16 mark into the postseason.
