Both Spirit Lake and Okoboji cross country participated in a twelve-team invitational hosted by Cherokee on Tuesday. The boys race was again dominated by the top two Indians runners, with Keith Byers winning the meet in 16:32, followed closely by Will Norris in second at 16:45. The Indians as a team finished in fourth place with 89 points, 36 points back of Storm Lake (53). MOC-Floyd Valley (60) and Unity Christian (88) were second and third, respectively. Okoboji wound up fifth with 145 points despite competing without top runner Joe Hilsabeck due to illness. Ryan Chinlund set the pace for the Pioneers with a time of 18:14, good for 18th overall.
The girls race featured Unity Christian in first with 48 points, MOC-Floyd Valley took second (59), and LeMars was third (88). Spirit Lake amassed 167 points to grab the sixth spot, with Okoboji taking eighth with 232 points. The Indians’ Dondi Schmidt ran a top-ten time of 16:42 for sixth-place honors. The Pioneers were led by Olivia Albright, who ran 17:27 for 18th place.
