Basketball and Football Camps Providing Summer Fun for Area Youth

Area youth will have ample opportunities to improve their athletics skills next week with several camps getting underway before the Independence Day weekend. New Spirit Lake boys basketball coach Nate Loenser will run his hoops camp from Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 1. The camp has two session, with elementary age kids going from 9am till noon, to be followed by 7th through 10th graders from 1pm to 4pm. Registration is $50 and brochures can be picked up or dropped off at the high school office in Spirit Lake.

Next week also marks the 1st Annual LeVar Woods Football Academy, to be held on the Bedell Family YMCA soccer fields. The two-day camp runs Wednesday, June 30 and Thursday, July 1. Youth grades five through twelve will receive instruction from a staff that includes former Hawkeyes and NFL players like Nate Kaeding, Brad Banks, Chic Ejiasi, Joel Hilgenberg, Bruce Nelson, Matt Kroul, and Sam Brownlee, as well as several current Iowa coaches and, of course, LeVar Woods. Registration forms can be found at the YMCA, with the camp running $175 a camper, though discounts are available for siblings and groups of ten.
